What is SeoGaugeBot?

SeoGaugeBot is the program SeoGauge uses to read a web page when someone asks for a report on it. It is not a search engine crawler and it does not browse the web on its own. Every visit is started by a person entering an address at seogauge.com, or by a weekly re-check that a site's owner turned on.

What does it request?

A page check reads the requested page, robots.txt, the sitemap, llms.txt and a small number of the page's links to test whether they are broken. A whole-domain rating reads a sample of about 18 pages chosen from the sitemap and follows the robots.txt rules that apply to SeoGaugeBot when choosing them. Pages are read once and are not re-fetched in a loop.

How do I block it?

Add a robots.txt group for the user agent SeoGaugeBot with Disallow: / to keep it out of whole-domain ratings. A firewall rule on the same user agent blocks every request. When a site refuses the request, SeoGauge tells the person who asked that the site blocks automated checkers and does not retry under another identity.

How do I allow it?

If your own site returns an error to SeoGauge, your CDN or firewall is refusing automated requests. Add an allow rule for requests whose user agent contains SeoGaugeBot, then run the check again. SeoGaugeBot always sends the same user agent and never pretends to be a browser.
