What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a plain Markdown file at the root of a website (example.com/llms.txt) that gives AI assistants a short summary of the site and a list of its most useful pages. It starts with a # heading naming the site, a > quote summarising it, then ## sections of links with one-line descriptions.

How do I create an llms.txt file?

Enter your domain and choose Generate a draft. We read your homepage and sitemap and group your pages into sections. Edit the summary and add a short description after each link, check it passes the validator, then save it as llms.txt at the root of your website.

Do ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity read llms.txt?

No AI company has promised to use it for search or citations yet. It is cheap to add, AI coding tools and agents do read it when asked to learn about a site, and it gives assistants an accurate summary you control. Treat it as a low-effort extra, not a replacement for allowing AI crawlers and writing clear pages.

What's the difference between llms.txt and llms-full.txt?

llms.txt is a short index of links. llms-full.txt, where offered, contains the full text of those pages in one file so an assistant can read everything without fetching each link. Most sites only need llms.txt.
